- Do you do location photography?
-
Sometimes. It depends upon the location, travel requirements, and whether or not I can create what the client wants on location.
Location sessions come with extra fees. If you have your heart set on a location shoot, we’ll figure it all out at the Design Conversation. The fees are due when you book your session date.
- What kind of paperwork is involved?
-
Every client signs a Photography Contract and a Model Release that outline my responsibilities, as well as theirs, when they book their session.
A signed copy of the documents must be on file with the studio before a session can take place.
If the "client" is a minor, the parent(s)/legal guardian(s) must sign the paperwork.
- Who do you consider to be a minor?
-
I have a pretty strict rule on this one:
IF THE PERSON IN QUESTION IS EITHER 18 YEARS OF AGE (OR YOUNGER) AND/OR IS STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL (OR ITS VOCATIONAL EQUIVALENT), I CONSIDER THEM TO BE A MINOR.
That means that a parent or guardian must be present during all phases of the portrait experience, and must sign both the Photography Contract and the Model Release.
It also means that all communications must have the parent or guardian included in real time (group texting or group email).
- I have school-age children. Do you have special days for children’s portraits?
-
Yes, I do. As the mom of four, I know how hard it can be to get everyone organized and in one place at the same time. I deliberately reserve most Saturday mornings and school holidays for portrait sessions that include children and teens.
- Let's have THE TALK. You know....about germs.
-
As a semi-professional germaphobe, I subscribe to germ reality. All sorts of viruses and bacteria are a fact of life. So are soap, hot water, disinfectants, and elbow grease.
The advent of Covid-19 did not change the studio's basic cleaning regime. The bathroom is cleaned before and after each client, as is the rest of the studio.
Surfaces are disinfected before and after each client.
Weather permitting, I open the windows to allow fresh air to circulate through the building.
Studio wardrobe pieces are professionally dry cleaned. Props are cleaned and disinfected.
All of these measures reinforce Studio Rule #1: Discomfort leads to diminished joy. Your portrait session is meant to be a joyful and transformative experience. Discomfort is not allowed. Period.

- What do I do, if I don't feel well before my studio appointment?
-
Usually, we simply reschedule the appointment in question for the next mutually available date.
If the appointment can be conducted online (say a Design Conversation), and if you're feeling up to it, we can reschedule an in-person appointment to an online one.
Easy peasy.
- Do you have issues with orientation?
-
The only orientations I care about are portrait and landscape, and the only color that counts is green.
You be you. How would you like to be addressed?
- What's your pricing like?
-
It's industry standard.
If you're used to shoot and burn photographers who lack confidence in their abilities, and who have yet to master their craft, you're in for a surprise. You may wish to have smelling salts on hand during our Design Conversation.
That being said, you only buy what you love.Let me say that again: You only buy what you love. That's a promise from me to you.
Fair warning: It's my joy to create portraits of you that will blow your mind. You're gonna love all of them! - What's a portrait experience like?
-
In a buzz word: Transformative.
Your portrait session is all about you: how you see yourself; how you want to be seen; and most importantly, how you feel about yourself. We'll discuss all of these things, and more, in your Design Conversation. We're going to take the time to build a trusting relationship because great portraits take trust more than time or technique.
Trust allows you to relax in front of the camera, to be your genuine self, so that I can capture the real you.
It's why we put so much time and care into custom-designing your portrait session. It's your time to be seen and to be heard.
By the time your appointment rolls around, we'll be friends having fun, with the side benefit of awesome portraits...Portraits that will have you saying, "That's me! The real me!" - Have you had a portrait experience?
-
Yes! It was marvelous! I wanted to celebrate turning 50, and the experience changed me in ways that I still can't fully describe (and I'm an English major!).
I know what it's like to have my vision of myself made real in portraits. One of them is in my office. The others are proudly displayed at home.
Every time I look at them, I see my best self: a mom, a wife, a daughter, a businesswoman...a person who has accomplished so much and who is striving to go further. - What kinds of payment do you accept?
-
I accept cash, credit/debit cards, and gift certificates purchased through my website.
I offer pre-payment plans (think "lay-away") for portrait sessions, and payment plans for your portrait order.Pre-payment plans must be paid in full to secure your portrait session date. Order payment plans must be paid in full before you receive your images.
- How often do studio rules and pricing change?
-
Whenever I feel the need to change them.
However, when it comes to pricing, whatever pricing is in effect at the time you book your portrait session is the pricing that will be applied at your Reveal Appointment.
- Do you do Headshots/Personal Branding?
-
YES!!!!
This is the only Portrait Session that offers purely digital products (ie - NO prints).
The session is designed around your brand and how you want to market it.
Each image you purchase comes in four different formats (for print and digital marketing applications), so that you're prepared to put your best face forward in any marketing situation.
If you're working with a website provider, I'm happy to coordinate with them to ensure that the web-optimized images fit their specs. - What if I don’t want Hair and Makeup?
-
Cool! If styled hair and makeup are not your jam, then a "Come As You Are" session is perfect for you. It's a no-frills experience. Just you (and your wardrobe), me, and the camera. Your portraits will be in iconic black and white with no retouching involved.
If your concern about professional hair and makeup stem from uncertainty, let's talk about it in our Design Conversation. We'll discuss your feelings and I'll show you the makeup guide. From a "no-makeup" look to the classic smokey eye, there's a look for everyone. The studio employs professional Hair and Makeup Artists to ensure that clients get exactly the look that they want. Best of all, these artists have the hearts of servants, and they aim to please. They have yet to miss.
A NOTE: Makeup and hair for amazing portraits is different from everyday makeup. My advice is to luxuriate in the pampering of the studio's Hair and Makeup Artists. The choice will be yours to make at your Design Consult.
- Giveaways, Promotions, and Model Calls: Oh, My!
-
Occasionally, I run Promotions and Model Calls. (Giveaways are exceedingly rare.) There are rules (like honest-to-goodness legal rules) that govern each kind of activity. Participants are required to sign forms that indicate that they have read and understood the rules specific to whatever they’re entering. Part of entering these events is data collection. Along with Privacy, this is a hot topic. Here is the Privacy Policy, in legalese.
